Intermediate Low Grammar
Description:
Based on the basic grammar learned at the beginner level, students learn sentence patterns and vocabulary necessary for properly performing everyday conversation according to topics and scenes. Learn spoken language that facilitates communication, including treatment expressions. Also, read sentences in multiple paragraphs and grasp the significance by paying attention to connected expressions.
Units: 5
Course Reflective Narrative:
Intermediate Low Grammar course was completed in Spring 2016 at Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto. As a language course taught in Japanese, it fulfills MLO2 Upper Division Language and Communication. This course met 5 times a week for about 2 hours and covered lower intermediate grammar, vocabulary and kanji. There were three different homework assignments each night; grammar, vocabulary and short essay assignments. Additionally, during each new chapter of kanji, it was up to the students to teach their assigned kanji to the class in Japanese. Those students that were "Kanji Sensei" taught the kanji's meaning, stroke order, how to remember the kanji and words that included the kanji. This course also had a final speech and PowerPoint. The theme was superstitions and for my final presentation I spoke about the superstitions of western weddings. For example, I talked about the idea of not seeing the bride before the wedding day, throwing the bouquet, and the vale (see Final Speech & Final Presentation). Although I was able to learn many new grammar, I wish that develop my speaking and listening ability more. Since returning to America, I have noticed that both of these skills have regressed a bit. Thus, I want to try hard to get the level that I was while in Japan, but then progress beyond that.
