JAPN 404: Advance Japanese for Presentational Communication
Description
This course aims to develop advanced proficiency in communication through oral and written presentations to finalize research project for Capstone in Japanese using appropriate media. Taught in Japanese.
Units: 2
Reflective Narrative:
This course fulfills two MLOS; MLO 1 Language and Communication and MLO 4 Research and Technology. For MLO 1, this course main focus is learning how to properly write an academic paper in Japanese, a Japanese PowerPoint, and a Japanese presentation. Since this course is in preparation for the Capstone project, we also had to continue to research our topics and prepare our PowerPoint, which fulfills MLO 4. During this class, in order to learn the proper grammar and vocabulary for an academic project, we did work sheets that followed the lecture for that day (see Worksheet Sample). On top of this, what we learn in this course is applied to the Japanese portion of our Capstone. There are many things from this course that I had not learn before, one aspect is writing papers, which has very specific rules that are very different from normal conversation. By understand these rules, it furthers my ability of being able to communicate in the three modes and analyze the structural of Japanese. However, I do wish to work on my ability to be able to write academic papers, because at the moment without looking at my notes it is difficult to remember all the rules and specific vocabulary that is needed. Since I will be graduating this semester, there will no longer be a need for me to write Japanese papers, however this does not mean I cannot practice and review these rules as I continue to learn Japanese. By constantly reviewing, this will help if decide to go to graduate school in Japan.
