Units: 1
Course Reflective Narrative:
The Intermediate Low Writing course was completed in in Spring 2016 at Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto. This course covers MLO1 Language and Communication and MLO2 Culture, because this course is taught in Japanese and by learning how write about different situations, when to use them, and what level of politeness to use. This course was designed so that all the assignments were done in class. Each class we were given the notes that would also contain practice problems and examples of that lesson's topic. However, if there were practice problems that the class was not able to finish before the end of class, then we would have to finish it at home before the next class. Additionally, there was a midterm and a final for the class. These exams tested our ability to see mistakes in emails, memos, or causal messages to friends and how to fix them and then be able to write emails, memos, etc. according to a given situation (see Sample Exam). From this course, I was able to learn how to properly write messages depending on who is receiving it and for what reason I'm writing it. It was very helpful to learn how to write proper messages, but I would like to learn how to write proper papers and essays in Japanese. As university student, it will be extremely helpfully to have this skill, which is why this is my next goal. I will achieve this goal, by taking the course at CSUMB called Advance Presentational Communication, which teaches how to a write academic paper for Capstone.
